Wolverhampton Grammar School, an independent selective day school for girls and boys aged 11 - 18, is located in 22 acres west of the town centre.

Students consistently achieve excellent academic results at both GCSE and A Level to provide an outstanding foundation for their future in higher education and employment.

Wolverhampton Grammar School is a healthy and happy environment that values and encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning as well as taking part in the wider community.

Scholarships
The Government Assisted Places Scheme, in which Wolverhampton Grammar School was heavily involved, has been phased out by the Labour Government. Children already on Assisted Places in the school will be funded to the end of their education, but no new places have been awarded since September 1997.

Wolverhampton Grammar School is pleased to offer their own Scholarships to prospective students.

Governors' Academic Scholarships
2 Governors' Academic Scholarships - at 11+ - remission of 1/2 of the annual school fee.

4 Governors' Academic Scholarships - at 11+ - remission of 1/4 of the annual school fee.

1 Governors' Academic Scholarship - at 13+ - worth 1/3 of the annual school fee.

Applicants do not need to apply for the above Scholarships, which are automatically awarded regardless of family income, based on the student's performance in the January entrance test/interview each year.

Governors' Aided Places
Governors' Aided Places are a number of means-tested awards to families for whom a place at the school would be impossible to contemplate without some form of financial help. Scholarships vary according to the level of family income but no award will be made if the annual family income is over £30,000 (proof of income is required).

To be awarded a Governors' Aided Place, girls and boys must demonstrate in the school's 11+ entrance test in January and a subsequent interview/audition, that they have the potential both to achieve significant academic success and to contribute positively to the school's extra-curricular, sporting or cultural life. References will also be sought from the child's current school and teachers/coaches.

Governors' Music Awards
Two scholarships (at 11+ and 16) will be awarded to new entrants to WGS for ¼ remission of the annual school fees plus free music tuition within the school on the instrument of the student's choice. In addition to meeting the school's academic criteria, students should be at least Grade 5 (at 11+) on their instrument and be deemed at interview to be most likely to contribute significantly to the musical life of WGS.

Governors' Sixth Form Scholarships
Two scholarships for ¼ remission of annual school fees regardless of family income, plus additional means-tested assistance, will be awarded to new entrants. They will be expected to achieve both high academic standards and be able to make a significant contribution to the school's extra-curricular life.
